This web site sprang from the fantastic opportunity of attending the iPad Developer Camp at AOL's New York office on April 17-18, 2010 where teams of developers came together to compete in creating iApps for the iPad within a 24-hour development window at the two-day event.
I was very lucky to be teamed with three incredibly smart developers - Andy Rifken, Devin Doty and Jeffrey Barg. Our team decided to create a syntax editor (like what BBEdit does, coloring code segments for easy identification).
As the event and programming progressed, it quickly became incredibly obvious that the iPad (and the many copies that will soon follow) will change everything. eReaders are already evolving the book publishing industry. Beyond that, the iPad will also revolutionize other forms of publishing, such as textbooks and magazines. With its multimedia functions, sexy design and ease of use, the iPad is the brick and mortar that will bind many communities, including content creators, publishers and advertisers. The masons will be the developers who build the tools that make content consumption on the iPad easy and seamless. The biggest winners will those who use or consume books, magazines, games and news content, whether audio, visual or text.
We're in the content business. The 4-iPad web site marks our intention to help developers build and distribute applications that monetize content consumption. What an exciting time!
